We recently chatted with 60 year old Sähëlï Hub participant, TsiTsi, who has been coming to Sähëlï Hub for two years.
TsiTsi explained:“The GP referred me [to Sähëlï Hub’s CAPD programme] because I was struggling with being pre-diabetic. It was hard to control it.
“I have been coming to Sähëlï Hub for two years. I get my regular checks and I come regularly for my classes. Now I also go to the park and do brisk walking. When I went for my last blood test they didn’t have any concerns about my blood sugar.
“I am very grateful for these exercise classes. They encourage me to come out of the house, join up with others and to do something. Sähëlï Hub makes me feel like I am part of a community. I am that person who is work, home, work, home, work, home. No time for myself. But coming here I was very grateful for because I feel part of a community, with a group of other women.
“I can do crochet, I can do exercise, attend different classes about diabetes, what I should eat, what I should avoid. I am very happy about it. I have put aside Tuesdays as my off day. I do not go to work that day. I am here at Sähëlï Hub.”
